An interview with 3D film producer Shaun MacGillivray
I’ve never been much of a fan of 3D movies. The campy technology made popular back in the 50s has always been in my opinion more gimmick than good cinema. I mean once you get past the special effects of random objects seeming to whiz past your head what are your really left with? Often 3D film is at best storytelling without substance.
But when applied to just the right setting three dimensional filmmaking takes on new meaning. Against a backdrop of epic proportions scaled down to a true human perspective 3D film can create a vivid experience that can be unimaginably real. Add to that the expansive image of an Imax theater screen and you find yourself not merely viewing the film but smack in the middle of it.
Grand Canyon Adventure, River At Risk is a 3D movie experience that puts you on raft in the Colorado River riding the raging rapids. But apart from the action this film offers a true experience to understand and realize that despite over two billion years of progress, the Colorado like river and lake systems around the world are being depleted.
The film’s producer Shaun MacGillivray hopes that audiences who see this movie can get past the sensory experience the 3D effect and learn how they can play a vital role in the protection of perhaps our most precious natural resource.
